Minutes - First Annual DCO Meeting May 17, 2006 Angela Noble called the meeting to order at 7:15 by lifting her fork. Although Angela departs from parliamentary procedure by dipping into dessert first, most of the rest of us, following long standing parental admonishments, ate our excellent ham, potato salad, mac and cheese and all the other seriously good food provided by our orchestra cooks before the "to die for" mousse and pie. Congenial groups formed during our pot-luck meal but, as usual, had to be hushed by our "get down to business" music director who turned the meeting over to our esteemed outgoing president. Report from the President Tom Outline agenda: A. Election of a Board 1. President - Mike Garrahan 2. Vice Pres. - to be appointed from elected members 3. Treasurer - Ashley Vorobiev 4. Secretary - Marolin Bellefleur (All voted in by acclamation.) B. Presentation of slate for three standing positions 1. Librarian(s) - Rosalie Meiland, Greg Urda 2. At large board members: Tom Rutherford, Martha Froseth, Dick Pitcher, Sally Vandeven, Sally Vukasovich. 3. Personnel director: TBA C. Agreement on By-laws. Discussion followed pertaining to C. Tom reminded all that we still have time to revise and submit. That their completion is crucial to 501C3 status for the orchestra. Sheldon Berry, Don Hicks and Fred Beutler spoke breifly to the issue of by-laws and it was decided to table them again. Voting will take place during a rehearsal for the outdoor concert in June. Fred will take a closer look at the document. Music Director's report: Don's assessment of Mothers' Day concert was that it was exciting. Program was longer that expected but wanted to leave no one out. Congratulations to all members. Don issued a plea for the position of personnel director to be filled. He listed the following responsibilities: 1. Attendance 2. Filling vacancies on a substitute basis 3. Keeping a file of our musicians 4. Informing the Music Director of absences etc. in order to conduct a more effective rehearsal. Discussion followed: Auditions - probably not at this time except for brass and winds should there be vacancies. Perhaps for section leaders too. Schedule for 2006/7 concert season: Oct. 22, Dec. 10 w/DCB, March 11 and May 20. Soloists so far for next season - Don Fishel, flute (Oct 22), Dmitri Vorobiev (March)? Needs for the June concert still exist. Most having to do with amplification. Discussion followed. Issue is unresolved as of 5/17. Question - is the school available for rehearsals for the June concert? Unresolved 5/17. Begin a tradition to include youth soloists during May concert. Sue Sinta suggested including students (on merit basis?) During each concert. Treasurer's report: $562 was collected in the open cello cases on May 14. Discussion followed - do we need to collect dues from musicians? Consensus - not now. DCO - as part of Dexter Community Ed. From our President Elect. Mike G: Forms for purchasing recordings of this year's concerts will be available on June 7th for those wanting copies. Suggested price - $4.00 (first concert), $5.00 (second concert).
