DCO Minutes 8/12/06 at Foggy Bottom Attending: Don Parrish, Mike Garrahan, Sally Vandeven, Matt Briere, Martha Froseth and (invited guest) Dan Flynn. Rosalie Meiland (librarian) passed out music for the October concert. Dan Flynn was at the meeting as representative of DHS music department which hopes to engage the DCO in raising funds for DHSO trip to the UK. Several ideas came forth, including a reception after the concert, a table at Dexter Apple Daze. Two important items were discussed: 1) Clean-up/set-up of any such benefit will be the responsibility of fund raisers and, 2) It will be made clear with signs and any other advertising that these donations are not in any way to benefit any organization other than the DHSO. Old business: Bank Balance? Budget: In Ashley's absence, Sally offered to work with her to put together projected expenses for the 2006-2007 season. It will be ready for the next meeting. Tax exempt status is still in limbo. Need some signatures still: But should have some receipts ready to hand out at the first concert for those who so generously drop something in one of the open cases at concert time. Sally will take care of this matter as well. New business: Sally Vandeven volunteered to be Vice President; board confirmed. 1) How often should the board meet? Once a month 2) The Board needs to find a community leader to join it. Someone like Mr Cousins, who is a known supporter of the arts would be perfect. Ask at first rehearsal if anyone knows him well enough to ask him. Is there someone else known to orchestra members who might be willing? 3) Auditions will be held August 23. Candidates need to call for a time slot. The orchestra is specifically looking for Flute, Bassoon and upper strings. 4) Mike and Don will preside. 5) Advertise auditions (Sally will do) 6) Martha cautioned that bowings should be ready by first rehearsal and any changes thereto must reach the players sitting behind the first stand. Vacancies: a) Personnel director b) Publicity chair c) Equipment mngr (Mike will call Ed Winfield) d) Organizations to sponsor concerts NEXT MEETING - SEPTEMBER 20 6:00 Respectfully submitted, Marolin Bellefleur
