Minutes August 26 3:00 PM at Grand Traverse Pie Co.

Meeting was called to order at 3:17

Attending: Mike Garrahan, Fran Wakefield, Sally Vandeven, Dick Pitcher,
Marolin Bellefleur.

Old business:
Current financial report from Fran
* $2,333.60
* No bill yet from Kevin Gilmartin for May concert.

Roster unification: Dick has first draft ready. Still a work in progress.
Make information sheets available at first rehearsal.

Announcement for donations - 2nd or 3rd rehearsal. Sally will prepare
envelopes and forms. Suggested donation - $50.

Numbering system will be put in order for music folders in hopes of
keeping better track of what people have out.

How to fill spots on the "board" with people from the community we
serve? Sally is the one person for now since she is not able to play
this season.

New business
Publicity for October concert:
* Find someone to make sandwich boards to wear during Dexter's Apple
  Daze celebration.  (maybe Ed)
* Large and small flyers (Rutherfords maybe)
* Include a small flyer in your auto for display on side windows when parked.
* Provide individual tickets to hand out at events again.

Recruiting Volunteers from the community:
* MB will contact Huron Valley Girl Scouts and RSVP
* Contact person for Kiwanis - Barb Bell and Fred Modell
* Rotary - Lori Sprague
* Lions ? but they may be willing to sponsor Youth Concert. The Lions
  support the High School orchestra every year.

Personnel issues:
* Discuss car pooling at first rehearsal - especially as it pertains to
  those prospective players who don't drive.
* There was much discussion about the problems of late comers, no shows,
  etc. Tighter attendance keeping seems the solution for now.

Outreach Idea:
Since DCO is not a union orchestra, it might be possible to "podcast"
concerts for distribution to schools without music programs. Along with
that, we would need to develop some materials to be included into the
humanities/social science curriculums. (It is generally thought that
the UP has withdrawn public school music for lack of funds)
